Looking Down the Barrel
Safety and Health
Are they less important in an economic downturn?
(a few important questions)
I'm calling out to the entire Safety Department on this one.
Exactly who (seriously, which individual) made the decision that all cleaning and hygienic requirements in our rest rooms and shower facilities are cancelled when we have layoffs?
Who decided to ignore O.S.H.A. Federal Regulations (29cfr 1910.142(d) paragraph 10)?
In the above noted regulation, it states "Privies and toilet rooms (also the washing and shower facilities) shall be kept in a sanitary condition. They shall be cleaned at least daily."
Has someone contacted O.S.H.A. and obtained a pardon from these laws?
Recently our washroom and locker room facilities went as long as three weeks without any type of competent cleaning maintenance. (How does that compare with "sanitary" or cleaned "daily" as the law requires?) This has happened more than once since these layoffs began.
Isn't it the responsibility of the Safety Department to make sure O.S.H.A. violations are corrected immediately?
At what point do these laws not apply to Beta Steel?
Are there elected Government officials involved here?
Does management not want to pay the cost of contracting with a professionally trained janitorial service because of the current "hard times?"
Are they saying they can't justify such an extravagant expense because it only concerns our Health and Welfare?
Aren't general Health and Safety issues the concern of all Safety Department Officers?
 Just Two More Questions.
How often are the facilities cleaned in the Administration and Safety Offices?
Who is responsible for overseeing that?
Fraternally:
